We are very pleased to announce that Ambassador Takanori Kitamura has been appointed Honorary Fellow by the University. Ambassador Kitamura has had a distinguished career as a diplomat and an educator. After his services and overseas postings by the Japanese Ministry of Foreign Affairs including Consul-General in Hong Kong and Ambassador to Greece, Ambassador Kitamura joined to the University as a Senior Research Fellow at the Institute for Asia Pacific Studies and Professor in the Department of Japanese Studies. He provided seed funding to help establish the Research Centre in Comparative Japanese Studies and initiated a beloved two-way exchange programme with Saga University. The Ambassador also donated 20 Japanese cherry trees, delivered from Kyushu, which are now situated in the New Asia College. The planting of these trees created an iconic place of interest for the CUHK community and visitors especially when the trees blossom in early spring. The Honorary Fellow award recognizes the Ambassador’s outstanding service to the community and contribution to the Department and the University.
We convey our heartfelt gratitude and congratulations to Ambassador Kitamura!
