“Studying Japanese Studies opened up an unexpected and enriching journey in my life.”
“Studying Japanese Studies made it difficult to find a high-paying job — if I had known, I might have chosen another major.”

Among graduates of the Department of Japanese Studies, these are the two voices most often heard. Why such a difference in experiences? Because what the Department provides is not a formal guarantee or a specific qualification. Rather, it is like a passport to an unknown future — a unique opportunity.

Here, you will have the chance to truly understand cultures you once thought you knew but had long misunderstood; to build lifelong friendships in a society often said to make genuine connections difficult; and not simply to follow others blindly, but to challenge and refine your own perspectives so that your values become clearer and deeper. These experiences can greatly broaden the possibilities of your life. However, how you make use of them after graduation — and how far they take you — ultimately depends on your own initiative and actions.

Allow me to share a small part of my own experience. During my student years and my time as a company employee, through club activities, part-time jobs, and career experiences at various advertising companies and social media platforms, I was fortunate to accumulate many valuable experiences and relationships. In January 2025, I took the step of founding my own company; and at the same time, as a musician, I was fortunate to debut under Amuse Music Entertainment, a major record company. The true starting point of all this was the skills and inspiration I gained in the Department of Japanese Studies.

I sincerely invite students with curiosity and a spirit of adventure to embark on this journey of exploration and challenge. The Department of Japanese Studies is the best place to take that very first step.
